When I was a teenager, I lived for the bi-annual National High School Journalism Convention. It sounds dorky — but it’s true. I loved the three-day events that were jammed packed with sessions on all things journalism. I loved getting to meet professionals in the industry and students like me from across the country.
I have no doubt that my access to resources like this convention as a high school student have had a profound influence on the tradjectory of my journalism education and career. I feel an immense amount of gratitude to the organizations and people who helped open these doors for me.
That’s why I now work to give back to those same groups and encourage scholastic journalism education. It is my hope that my work, even if only in a small way, will impact budding young journalists in the same way that the work of others impacted me.
I’ve worked to encourage scholastic journalism at numerous events and with multiple organizations. I’ve presented at national scholastic journalism conventions and partnered with local schools in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. My goal is to educate and inspire students in the position I was in not so long ago. Click on the logo for each organization I’ve worked with too learn more about my efforts.
I’m always open to helping out with new organizations involved with scholastic journalism education. If you are interested in working with me in a speaking or mentorship capacity, please refer to my contact information listed on the About Me page.
